Looking out of my window this morning on a windy and damp day at the end of March, I cast my mind back to the same Friday six years ago, when our dreams and plans collided and we launched Waterloo Music, a guitar (and then drum) shop in Yeovil, Somerset!
I recall the excitement amongst local musicians, who’d watched the lengthy renovation process within the shop take place from afar, photos on social media hinting at what was to to come!
The rush behind the scenes to get ready to open was immense, there was so much to do to get ready for our opening event on the Friday evening, and our first day trading on the Saturday. Decorating equipment to clear away, flooring to lay, a string wall to assemble and build, brand new instruments to unbox then display, staff to train and don uniforms. It was a whirlwind of activity! And then our music shop was ready to unveil, shiny, inviting and so brand new!
In the six years that we’ve been trading since we’ve built up a wonderful following, being part of this community and establishing our place within the local music scene has been a genuine pleasure!
With every pack of strings sold, every discussion about types of pickup, every amp demonstrated, every guitar repaired, every lesson delivered, every plectrum sold, every guitar played in store, every story told, every birthday present supplied, we thank you! To our customers, staff, and suppliers, past and present, thank you for being part of our journey!
Thank you for being there, we’ve created our own amazing community, now six years old and very different to when we first launched; we’re a specialist guitar shop now, we have a different team of staff led by our store manager, Ed Swinburn!
So, today celebrating our 6th birthday, and a second birthday spent during a lockdown, we are ready and equipped, but mostly excited, to face the next chapter in our history! Bring on April 12th!
Do you remember when we first opened? Have you bought a guitar from us? We'd love to know, let us know on our social media your favourite memories of our shop!
